<p>The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released its report on Energy Efficiency 2021 which deals with the progress made, the pandemic and impacts on the supply chain of materials. Its objective is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, not only in the energy sector but also in appliances and  buildings. </p>

<p>While the actual number of products may not be relevant for the total market, the results published by EEPLIANT in its latest newsletter provide some elements for reflection.</p>

The Consultation Forum on the Ecodesign preparatory study for Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) held on 15 November 2021 was to present proposed policy measures. The meeting however did not produce clear outcomes and policy conclusions.

During the Consultation Forum on BACS, reference was made to a study on ICT alongside the development of Ecodesign measures. The aim is to propose a policy approach for improving energy efficiency and wider circular economy aspects of ICT.

The Ecodesign Preparatory Study on Smart Appliances (Lot 33) started in 2014 and published its final reports in 2018. Smart appliances support Demand Side Flexibility (DSF). The Commission has asked its Joint Research Centre (JRC) to support the development of policy proposals for energy smart appliances.

The UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) released two publications of interest. A summary on how the UKCA would apply from 1 January 2023, and another which outlines the views towards UK Ecodesign measures that could possibly be implemented from 2025 onwards.

<p>Draft delegated Regulation amending Annex VII of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 regards a methodology for calculating the amount of renewable energy used for cooling and district cooling is out for consultation.</p>
