Sustainable Products

Basic information

Sustainability concerns about the way we produce and consume are becoming more pressing by the day. Humanity’s ecological footprint is estimated to be around 1,6 planet Earths and growing, with around 60% of it accounted for by carbon emissions. Products and production processes must become more sustainable and circular to fit within planetary boundaries. Eurovent favours a sensible regulatory framework that harmonises requirements for products’ energy performance and lifetime environmental impacts and helps close the loop on productive cycles.

Legislation

This section highlights EU legislation that supports the transition to more sustainable and circular products throughout their entire lifecycle. Central to this is the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which establishes a comprehensive framework for improving the environmental performance of nearly all categories of physical goods. The database contains the most recent publications but also allows you to go back in time.

The legislation introduces ecodesign requirements aimed at enhancing durability, repairability, energy and resource efficiency, recyclability, and transparency. These measures contribute to reducing carbon emissions, minimising waste, and achieving the EU’s broader climate and circular economy objectives. The framework also allows for horizontal rules across product groups, helping to align environmental and market goals in a harmonised way.
