Trade and Competitiveness

Basic information

The global economy is changing. The return of geopolitics in a multipolar world, the erosion of multilateral trade relations, and a once-in-a-century pandemic have caused deep and lasting disruptions in our industry. At the same time, Europe has set itself the target of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and is pioneering sustainability standards unmatched elsewhere in the world. In this context, it is one of our priorities to ensure that European manufacturers can keep competing on global markets and remain leaders in the technologies that will power the future.

Legislation

This section brings together EU legislation aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of European industry in a rapidly changing global context. Key legislative initiatives, such as the Clean Industrial Deal, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and the Critical Raw Materials Act, seek to align industrial policy with the EU’s climate and sustainability goals while preserving fair competition and supply chain resilience. These measures support European manufacturers in facing challenges like high energy costs, geopolitical uncertainty, and global market distortions. They promote clean technologies, secure access to essential materials, and ensure that climate ambition does not come at the expense of industrial strength or international competitiveness.
