<p>Within the framework of the Ecodesign Directive and Energy Labelling Regulation for air conditioners and comfort fans, harmonised standards are developed under a mandate by the European Commission. This article provides for an outline of these standards.</p>

<p>On 27 February 2018, Eurovent attended the inauguration of its Associate Member CEIS’ new testing facility. The project, which was under development for a little more than two years, promises to open doors for a new generation of products and testing opportunities – for the benefit of certification bodies, manufacturers and other organisations in the air conditioning market.</p>

<p>In cooperation with Orgalime, the Eurovent Team regularly provides you with an in-depth overview on all European legislative developments of relevance for the HVACR sector. The Bulletin provides for a hands-on compendium allowing the industry to assess the status quo and expected future developments. In this article, our Team has summarised the key takeaways for members only.</p>

<p>On 22 December 2017, the European Commission released its ‘draft exchange model’ to test the future database EPREL. The white goods industry represented by the association CECED has been discussing this database in weekly meetings. This has led to a paper with comments to which Eurovent can subscribe.</p>

<p>The European Commission has noted that many products sold in Europe do not comply with European legislation. The proposal for a compliance and enforcement regulation would increase EU-level coordination of market surveillance, clarify the procedures for the mutual assistance mechanism, and require non-EU manufacturers to designate a natural or legal person responsible for compliance information in charge of cooperating with the EU market surveillance authorities.</p>

<p>Similar to the package of energy measures presented on 30 November 2016, the European Commission aims to have a new package available by the end of 2018. This package would include, amongst others, revised Ecodesign & Energy Labelling measures for lighting, displays, household refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines. The revision of the motor and fan Ecodesign regulations and the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling proposals for commercial refrigeration are targeted to figure in this package too. </p>

<p>On a monthly basis, the Eurovent Team compiles a global overview of the latest developments concerning new standardisation activities and technical regulations of relevance for the HVACR industry. Our Notifications allow members to be prepare for developments that can have an impact on them and their products.</p>

<p>Our Issue Group ‘Eurovent Middle East’ has made it to the final round of the European Association Excellence Awards 2018, which will be held in Brussels on 23 February 2018. As one of eight finalists for the ‘Most Innovative Development by an Association’ award, Eurovent Middle East has already gained further high-profile recognition and hopes to promote their cause even more.</p>

<p>On 27 and 28 February 2018, our Team will answer all your questions at Forum Wentylacja, Poland’s major event for the ventilation and air conditioning industry. For the third year in a row, Eurovent is supporting the event, and present with its own booth. Visitors are now able to schedule an appointment with us right on our website through Calendly. </p>

A first demonstration of EPREL will be given during the upcoming meeting. Eurovent is going to attend the meeting and provide an in-depth summary. A webinar is going to follow. </p>

<p>The European Commission is replacing the current system of ‘New Approach (NA) consultants’ with the so-called ‘Harmonised Standards (HAS) consultants’. The HAS consultants’ role is to assess whether the standards drafted by CEN, CENELEC, ETSI comply with the European Commission requests as outlined in the relevant standardisation mandates.</p>
