Eurovent statement on cybersecurity in HVACR
Eurovent deplores the recent cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems in France. These incidents underline the importance of robust cybersecurity in an increasingly connected world.
Digitalisation and connectivity offer significant benefits for the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry. Connected products and systems enable better energy efficiency, more effective monitoring and maintenance, and improved operational performance. Realising these benefits depends on maintaining trust in the security and reliability of connected technologies.
Good cybersecurity practices are essential throughout the lifecycle of connected equipment, from product design and development to installation, operation and maintenance. This requires continued attention and cooperation across the entire value chain.
The European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) provides an important common framework for strengthening the cybersecurity of products with digital elements. Eurovent welcomes this development and supports its effective implementation.
Through its Working Group ‘Digital HVACR’ (WG-DIGI), Eurovent is bringing manufacturers together to support the practical implementation of the CRA for HVACR equipment. We encourage interested manufacturers to join this collaborative effort, share their expertise and help develop common industry approaches that reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.
