Eurovent Commission elects Chairs, focuses on EPBD and IAQ
On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, during the Eurovent Annual Meeting in Brussels, the Eurovent Commission met to elect its leadership, exchange views with the European Commission on EPBD implementation, and strengthen cooperation with the Indoor Air Quality Society on indoor air quality as a public health priority.
The meeting marked the re-election of Marta San Román as Vice-Chairperson of the Eurovent Commission for an additional term. Lennart Ostergaard remains Chairperson, reflecting his long-standing commitment to coordinated European industry representation.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views with representatives of the European Commission on the implementation and enforcement of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) across Member States. The discussion focused on how Member States are approaching EPBD transposition, where implementation challenges may arise, and how the Commission intends to follow up to ensure that the Directive is applied coherently across Europe.
Indoor air quality was also part of the discussion, reflecting the importance of the EPBD as the main EU-level instrument in this area. In this context, Eurovent welcomed Marianne Kemmer, Executive Director of the Indoor Air Quality Society (IAQS) to the Commission meeting. Eurovent will work more closely with IAQS in future to help place indoor air quality firmly on the public health policy agenda.
On the outcomes of the meeting and the Commission’s ongoing work, Chairperson Lennart Ostergaard stated: “The Eurovent Commission meeting in Brussels highlighted the importance of strong European coordination at a crucial stage in the implementation of the EPBD. We particularly appreciated the exchange with European Commission Policy Officer Pau Garcia Audi, which provided valuable insights into the Commission’s approach to ensuring coherent transposition across Member States. Delivering on the EPBD’s ambitions will require close cooperation between EU and national stakeholders, while ensuring that energy efficiency improvements go hand in hand with high indoor environmental quality across Europe.”
Speaking after the election, Vice-Chairperson Marta San Román noted: “I am very happy to continue as Vice-Chair; it is a great honour, and a very good excuse to keep asking difficult questions with a smile, ensuring that our sector –often invisible when it works well– becomes very visible in policymaking, and that EPBD implementation and IAQ are addressed with evidence, practical intelligence and enough European spirit to bring real buildings, real people and real market experience into the debate.”
These highlights reflect the role of the Eurovent Commission as one of the association’s top decision-making bodies and a central forum for political coordination. By bringing together national HVACR associations from across Europe, the Commission helps connect EU and national policy developments, coordinate industry priorities, and ensure that Eurovent’s work remains broad, balanced, and representative.
