State of play

The recast 2023 Renewable Energy Directive (RED) was adopted and published in the Official Journal of the EU on 30 October 2023. Member States have 18 months to transpose the RED’s new provisions into national law. The recast RED aims to boost renewable energy shares at EU level to 42,5% by 2030. It also sets an indicative target of at least a 49% renewable energy share in buildings in 2030 and mandates a binding increase in renewables for heating and cooling of 0,8% per year until 2026 and 1,1% from 2026 to 2030.

Eurovent feedback on the roadmap for the RED review

Eurovent supports the further reliance on renewable energies. While outlining the future Renewable Energy Directive (RED) the implementation of the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) of the member must be assessed to check if the national 2020 renewable energy targets have been achieved. Deployment of future measures in transport, heating and cooling in industry and buildings would push the development of renewables to contribute to the 2050 climate ambitions and greater greenhouse gas reductions.
