Legislation

This section provides a focused overview of European legislation on pressure equipment, with specific reference to the 2014 Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). The directive sets harmonised rules for the design, manufacture, and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies placed on the EU market, ensuring they can be operated safely under pressure levels above 0,5 bar. In addition to the legal text, the section includes documents such as guidelines, references to harmonised standards, and more. The database contains the most recent publications but also allows you to go back in time.

The documents clarify the responsibilities of manufacturers, importers, and distributors, outlining essential safety requirements that apply throughout the product lifecycle. The 2014 Pressure Equipment Directive establishes a risk-based classification system for pressure equipment and defines the applicable conformity assessment procedures accordingly. It also reinforces the role of CE marking as proof of compliance with both safety and performance standards. The legislation aims to eliminate barriers to trade, strengthen product safety, and ensure a consistent regulatory approach across Member States.
