Legislation

This section compiles key European legislation governing general product safety. This includes not only the legal text of the 2023 General Product Safety Regulation and the superseded 2001 General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) but also studies and policy documents related to standardisation. The database contains the most recent publications but also allows you to go back in time.

The EU legislation addresses challenges posed by digitalisation, online marketplaces, and global supply chains. It sets out obligations for manufacturers, importers, and distributors to ensure that products placed on the market are safe, including requirements for traceability, timely recall procedures, and clear safety information.
