Brussels, 10 February 2026. Eurovent has published its Recommendation on complementary Product Category Rules (cPCR) for commercial refrigeration equipment. This new Recommendation is now available in the Publications section of the Eurovent website.
The Recommendation on cPCR for commercial refrigeration equipment provides industry stakeholders with a harmonised framework for developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lifecycle assessments (LCAs) tailored to commercial refrigeration products. The document is designed to support manufacturers, consultants, and environmental professionals in adopting consistent and transparent environmental reporting practices until formal standards are in place.
Commercial refrigeration equipment, including refrigerated display cabinets, commercial beverage coolers, ice-cream freezers and similar technologies, play a critical role in food retail, food service, and cold chain operations across Europe and beyond. With increasing regulatory focus on sustainability, environmental impacts and product transparency, the Recommendation offers a practical set of rules and assumptions to guide consistent reporting and comparison of product environmental performance.
Eurovent Deputy Secretary General, Stijn Renneboog, mentioned that “Manufacturers and users of commercial refrigeration equipment need a harmonised approach to life-cycle assessment and environmental declarations. This guidance defines consistent methodological rules for calculating and reporting life-cycle impacts for commercial refrigeration products, as part of Eurovent’s wider programme to harmonise environmental declarations across HVAC product categories.”
Eurovent’s Recommendation helps reduce ambiguity in LCA practices, promotes comparability of environmental data, and supports industry preparedness ahead of potential future regulatory or standardisation requirements
